BPSC Syllabus 2023

The BPSC Syllabus is set by the Bihar Public Service Commission. The commission is constitutionally mandated to assist the Bihar state government in matters of recruitment, transfer and disciplinary matters.

BPSC has set a three-stage selection process for the BPSC Recruitment-

  1. Preliminary Test
  2. Mains Test
  3. Interview.

BPSC Prelims Syllabus

The Prelims is the screening stage before the BPSC Mains. The marks in Prelims will not be taken into consideration for the final merit list.

BPSC Prelims tests the general knowledge of the candidates in a different areas. The sections included are as follows.

  • General Science
  • Events of National and International Importance
  • History of Bihar and Indian History
  • Geography
  • Geography of Bihar
  • Indian Polity and Economy
  • Changes in the Economy of Bihar Post-Independence
  • Indian National Movement and the Role of Bihar
  • General Mental Ability.

Note:

  • The questions on Science and Tech will will cover a general, observational understanding of science that does not require specialized knowledge in any specific field of science and tech.
  • In History, candidates also need to focus on the economic, political and social aspects of Bihar as well.
  • In both History and Geography, candidates have to prepare the history and geography of India and Bihar as well.
  • In Geography, questions will also be based on the social and economic geography of Bihar and India, including Indian agriculture and the use of natural resources.
  • Indian Economy and Polity, the questions will cover the following topics:
    • Indian Political System
    • Panchayati Raj
    • Community Development
    • Planning in India and Bihar
  • Under the Indian National Movement, candidates have to focus on the resurgence in the 19th century, the nature and growth of nationalism in India, and India’s independence. Also, the role of Bihar in the Indian National Movement is important from the BPSC exam point of view.
  • Indian National Movement section will test candidates knowledge in the nature of the 19th century, the growth of nationalism and achievement of Independence as well as the role of Bihar in India’s freedom movement.

BPSC Mains Syllabus

Candidates who clear the Prelims exam they will be eligible for BPSC Mains. Approximately, the number of candidates selected for Mains will be equal to 10 times the total number of vacancies.

BPSC Interview Syllabus

After clear the BPSC Mains Exam, candidates will then be asked to attend an Interview Test for the respective position desired. This is to test the suitability of the candidate for the job. Aspirants must be thorough with the current affairs happening both within and outside their state. The Mental and Analytical qualities of the aspirant will also be tested. The interview will be used to evaluate the candidate’s general knowledge, character attributes, and job-related skills. The candidate will go through document verification if they are considered qualified for selection, and then they will be hired. There will be 120 marks awarded for this interview round.
